Historical Museum at Fort Missoula
The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula was established by community
effort in 1975 to save what remained of original Fort Missoula, and
to interpret the area's history. The museum is located on 32 acres in
the heart of historic Fort Missoula. Its collection includes 24,000
objects including 13 historic structures. As a major historical museum
in Western Montana, the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula provides
a valuable educational and cultural experience for the community and
entire region. The museum's indoor galleries contain both permanent
and changing exhibits that deal with topics of interest from the period
of early exploration to modern times.

Missoula Art Museum
The Missoula Art Museum is committed to educating the community through contemporary art and to developing and conserving the Art Museum Collection in order to preserve and make accessible our cultural heritage. With the ongoing dedication of artists, educators, community members and volunteers, MAM (Missoula Art Museum) has grown from a summer arts festival to a thriving institution serving the Northwest. Accredited by the American Association of Museums since 1987, MAM develops and hosts approximately 25 exhibitions annually in six galleries located in the Carnegie building. MAM's exhibition programs encompass diverse media form local and international contemporary artists.
With education at the core of its mission, MAM offers tours and classes for all ages, and collaborates with local art, literary and music communities to develop lectures and workshops. MAM also participates in the Arts in the Schools and Neighborhoods Program, which takes visual, literary and performance art directly to Missoula's most at-risk children in partnership with the Flagship Program. MAM also offers classes through the Summer Art School. Programs like gallery tours, artist lectures and panel discussions are designed for every exhibit.
MAM manages the Missoula County Art Collection, as well as its own collection, which is distinguished by the Contemporary American Indian Art Collection, and works from regional and local artists, including: Dale Chihuly, Jacob Lawrence, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Susan Stewart and E.S. Paxson. MAM's acquisitions in 2005 include work by Terry Melton, Preston Singletary (Tlingit), Branson Stevenson, Gail Tremblay (Onondaga Micmac). MAM has published dozens of artist catalogues throughout the years, which are for sale in the 'Temporary Contemporary' museum and online.

Missoula Transportation and Restoration Museum
Established in 2004, the museum collects, preserves and, through our partnership with Montana Automotive Technologies, restores vintage/classic automobiles. Since November of 2005, the museum has outgrown its current location and is actively seeking a larger and more permanent setting. Montana Museum of Art & Culture at the University of Montana
The Mission of the Montana Museum of Art & Culture is to actively engage The University of Montana community and a diverse public in the appreciation of arts and culture through collections stewardship, exhibits and programs that educate and enrich.
The Permanent Collection, begun in 1894, now includes more than 10,000 original works. It is among the largest and oldest collections in Montana and the Rocky Mountain Northwest. The collection contains such treasures as the Fra Dana Collection of American Impressionism, The Edgar Paxson Collection of Paintings and Memorabilia, and the Rudy Autio Ceramics Collection. Museum holdings also include historical works by Frederick Remington, Julius Seyler, William Merrill Chase, Joseph Henry Sharp, Alfred Maurer, Honore Daumier, and modernist and contemporary works by Andy Warhol, David Salle and R.B. Kitaj.
A portion of the Permanent Collection is on view year round in various campus buildings and as outdoor sculpture. A map of campus-based and public art is available for self-guided tours. Public art on campus includes Charging Forward by Blackfeet artist Jay Laber; Grizz by Rudy Autio; and Teepee Burner by John Vichoreck.
Museum programming includes evening gallery talks, classes, and exhibition tours. MMAC offers internships that provide students with comprehensive, hands-on experience in museum programs and operations. The museum has available for purchase a variety of exhibition catalogs, and limited edition off-set lithograph prints of several works in the Permanent Collection.

Montana Natural History Center
The Natural History Center has great displays on the local and regional geology, flora and fauna, and provides guided tours of the Philip L. Wright Zoological Museum on the University Campus. The Center also produces the radio program ‘Field Notes' for Montana Public Radio.

National Museum of Forest Service History
The National Museum of Forest Service History (NMFSH) seeks to construct a facility that will capture and interpret this history for future generations. The future home of the museum will be Missoula, Montana, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains and home to the Forest Service Northern Region Headquarters. It is planned that the US Forest Service will provide most of the archives and artifacts that will make up the bulk of the collection.

Northern Rockies Heritage Center
The Northern Rockies Heritage Center is a growing museum, cultural and educational center. Organizations located at the center include the Montana Natural History Center, the Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History. Also at the Fort on adjacent property is the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula and the Fort Missoula Outdoor Amphitheater.
The Heritage Center is an architecture museum in itself based on military buildings of mission style architecture with arts and crafts interiors. Exhibits at the various museums and centers change periodically. Admissions to NRHC sites are presently free. Lodging and restaurant are located adjacent to the south edge of the Fort. Fort Missoula also has two 18-hole golf courses just next door to the NRA Campus.
New organizations on campus include the Vital Ground Foundation, Planet Kids Foundation, National Audubon Society, Children's Oncology Camp Foundation, Missoula Indian Center, Teen Challenge Inc., Robert Svoboda Historic Montana Collections. New public facilities include the Villa Event Center and the Heritage Hall Event Center.

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Elk Country Visitor Center is proud to be one of the newest and best conservation education facilities in the Northwest. The Elk Country Visitor Center features hands-on conservation and hunting heritage exhibits for all ages. The Center also includes a Lewis and Clark display, an impressive collection of world record elk mounts, a western wildlife diorama and a state of the art conservation theater. Shoppers will also enjoy the Elk Country gift shop full of beautiful wildlife art and many hand crafted and Montana-made creations. The public is welcome and admission is free. Open year round.
Founded in 1984 and headquartered in Missoula, Montana, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring the future of elk, other wildlife and their habitat. The Elk Foundation and its partners have permanently protected or enhanced 5 million acres, a land area nearly twice as large as Yellowstone National Park. Nearly 500,000 acres previously closed to public access are now open for hunting, fishing and otter recreation. The Elk Foundation has more than 150,000 members, a staff of 150 and 11,000 active volunteers.

Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History
Housed in the 1910 Commanding Officer' Quarters, the museum offers a variety of programs and exhibits on wars and military conflicts - World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm - as well as peacetime service. Contributions of military artifacts and personal memoirs are welcome from both veterans and the general public. An affiliate of the Northern Rockies Heritage Center.
Ongoing exhibits: ‘America's Knighthood: The Medal of Honor', and ‘War Comes to the Northern Rockies' Admission is free and open to the public; donations welcome.

Smokejumper Visitor Center
The Smokejumper Visitor Center is the largest active smokejumper base in the nation. The Smokejumper Visitor Center is a unique opportunity to learn about this unusual, demanding and dramatic occupation. A tour of the facility is also available. As you walk through the center you will visit the National Smokejumper Memorial, go inside a replica of a 1930's lookout tower, and a tour of the smokejumper loft, where the smokejumpers work when they are not fighting fires. Also tour the ready room and load masters room where the smokejumpers prepare for fire calls. Tours are available at 10 and 11:00am, 2, 3, and 4:00pm daily and the tour is free of charge.
