Germanfest, a celebration of German culture and Missoula's Sister City relationship with Neckargemünd, Germany occurs every fall at the Caras Park Pavilion. This year is the 17th Anniversary of this sister city relationship. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by the Missoula Cultural Council.

Music and Dancing
Oom-pah music and folk dancing is led by The Bavarian Echoes who play traditional polkas, waltzes, and "the chicken dance." Young or old, there's something about the traditional German music that gets everyone dancing at Germanfest.
German Food and Beer
Germanfest gets underway officially when the traditional keg of beer is tapped by Jurgen Knoeller, owner of Missoula's Bayern Brewery. The Shack Restaurant provides plenty of bratwurst, sauerkraut and potato salad, and there’s cheesecake for dessert!

Activities
Kids' Activities, an Information Booth with photos and books about Neckargemünd, and a Raffle of many fabulous prizes round out the festivities at Germanfest.

Germanfest 2008
Though threatening clouds appeared Sunday morning, by 3:00 p.m. the sun was out and over a thousand attendees enjoyed a perfect, breezy September afternoon in Caras Park.

This year, 2010, Missoula celebrates the 17th Anniversary of its sister-city relationship with Neckargemünd, Germany. Missoula Mayor John Engen and a delegation of high school students and teachers from Neckargemünd were on hand to mark the occasion.

As in past years, Bayern Brewing Co. tapped their first keg of Oktoberfest during the festivities, and music and dancing were led by the Bavarian Echoes. The Shack provided excellent German fare, and new to the festival this year, Dede's World Foods Market served up some authentic German pretzels.
